You can't predict when the peak will come unless you have good data and that is lacking. Most of the analysis that I had read was suggesting that the peak would come between 2005 and 2011. Somehow I do not see the 2005 production level being reached again so the 2005 people may have been right. Sadly, given the nature of the data we are unlikely to really know until the peak is well behind us.

At the April 2008 EIA Energy Conference, the future resource chart clearly shows 10.3-Tb (trillion barrels) of 23-Tb OOIP (oil originally in place) With the recent collapse of crude prices since, the April 2009 EIA Conference pared the figure to 9-Tb. Sheplin should be fired.

The nobody from IEA also illustrates his ignorance. The November 2008 World Energy Outlook released by IEA has a similar resource chart ... 9.0-Tb.

At Trendlines Research we produce a monthly compilation of the top 21 recognized estimates of URR. The last published version reveals an average URR of 3.8-Tb.

A similar top 20 of future production indicates that Peak Oil will be in 2023.

Imminent Peak has been an annual declaration by McPeaksters since 1989. But this year is different, right? Please drop by our website for facts and figures by geologists ... not pundits.
